Paula Glenister

Hi, I'm Paula Glenister

Paula Glenister

What I do

  • Writer
  • Facilitator

I have an eclectic background which includes: running a caseload in family law; managing a couple of probation offices; supervising an assessment office at the College of Law; training as a holistic therapist; studying for five years to become a postnatal facilitator; teaching adults and running my own business making natural skincare products.

I did say it was eclectic!

It's fair to say I love learning and I enjoy a challenge. As soon as I gave myself permission to write I was able to pour all of those experiences into telling stories, because stories matter. They don't just tell us a tale, they tell us about ourselves. They help us process grief and embrace laughter - sometimes in the same story. They take us to emotional heights and depths and allow us to return in time for tea.

I've studied storytelling. Taking an MA in Creative Writing was just a starting point. I've been studying my craft in depth ever since. But I don't tell stories that conform to a structure. Just like a jazz pianist who has to learn the basics before they can riff on a theme, that's just what I've been doing. In theatre, screenwriting, YA and children's novels.

So why haven't you heard of me? Because, like any musician, I've made sure that my work comes from a secure background before I let it out. And that's worked. In the last eighteen months I've been Long-listed in the Edinburgh YA Novels; in the top 10% of the BBC Open Call 2025 (with a co-writer); supported by Chichester Festival Theatre and received Arts Council Funding to work on a play (with co-writer).
